Already WordPress has option resting the password not username if you wish you can also change the username of WordPress admin panel.
Before a few days ago my client emails me that he forgot his WordPress admin login password and also the Lost your password button is not working. He thought that hacker changes his site login details, so he wants to set new login details for the site.
After that I check the site, yes i have to face the same issue.
Some time the Lost your password link is not working correctly then clients find the developer who fixes the problem.
If you forgot your WordPress admin login then, first of all, try the WordPress default setting for rest login password . just click on the link under the login screen. Within one minute you will receive an email associated with the account go to the link and you will see an interface of resetting the password . for there you can set your new pass key for the site.
My case was the little bit different. Ask me why ?
Let me explain
When Lost your password link does not work then you need to take database help. You need to log in your website cpanel dashboard.

# after clicking the PHPMyAdmin a new tab will be open it should be like the below picture.
#Now select your database for the website .from the left side or you can click on the top menu Databases.
#Now you will all the tables which are register for the WordPress site. Now you need to pick the right table for the reset WordPress username and password. The table would be the very bottom of the rows with this name prefix_users.
#Now you will the edit link with a pen icon, next you will see something like the Image.
#here you see an option for the set new password for the user. Put your new password on the user_pass section and don’t forget to select MD5 from the drop-down. After that click on the go button.
If you don’t know what is md5 then just search on Google, you will get a lot of info about md5.
